If you are used to opening an app and getting a car in five minutes, Grand Cayman will feel different. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Lyft do not operate in the Cayman Islands. Visitors rely on a handful of other options.
Your options
Licensed taxis
Taxis wait at the airport, the cruise terminal and the larger hotels. They are not metered. Fares are set by distance and passenger count, and the government's CI:GO app gives estimates. See Cayman taxi fares explained.
Pre-booked private drivers
A pre-booked driver gives you a fixed price and a guaranteed pickup. This is what most visitors choose for the airport and for cruise days.
Rental cars
Popular with people staying a week or more. Remember that Cayman drives on the left. See driving in Grand Cayman and rental car vs private driver.
Public buses
Minibuses run on set routes, mostly along the west side. They are cheap but infrequent and not designed for luggage or tight schedules.
Tours
For sights, a private island tour removes the transport question altogether.
Our suggestion
Book your airport transfer in advance. After that, use a driver for the days that matter and walk or taxi for the rest.
